Guitarist Giltrap tops bill at spring festival

TEWKESBURY'S Roses Theatre will play host to an eclectic mix of music, theatre and dance as part of the Tewkesbury Spring Festival, Awaken Your Senses.

The festival runs from Wednesday, May 24 until Sunday May 28 and the theatre is playing its part by offering visitors the chance to listen to a master guitarist, watch a controversial play or marvel at some inspired dance moves.

First up on Wednesday, May 24 is Gordon Giltrap who after 40 years in the music business has developed his own unique, acoustic style which is sure to pull in the crowds to get the festival off with a bang.

Giltrap who has performed alongside such names as Rick Wakeman and Midge Ure can count Queen guitarist Brian May as a friend and will be playing a wide selection of his most famous tracks and will be giving a brief rundown on the history of his many guitars.

The next big event is a production of D H Lawrence's, Lady Chatterley's Lover, presented by Buxton Opera House Productions.

The tale of forbidden love across the class divide has been provoking controversy since its publication in 1928 due to its explicit nature and it is sure to bring visitors flocking to the Roses to find out what all the fuss is about.

It follows the life of Connie Reid, a young, wealthy, married woman trapped in a loveless relationship, who finds her soulmate in the arms of a gamekeeper on her estate causing plenty shock and social scandal.

The main event on Saturday is the Bellydance Superstars. Hailing from America, the group of 14 dancers has been touring the country, delighting audiences with their shows of tremendous colour and energy.

Bellydancing has its roots in the Arab world and that style of dance shows through as brightly as the amazing costumes and complex routines.

This show has created quite a stir and tickets are already limited so early booking is advised.
