ROYAL BRITISH LEGION WOMEN'S SECTION: At the May meeting, chairman Wendy Griffiths read the delegate's report to members of the National Conference at Blackpool. Details were given of a proposed trip on August 22 to Crossfield House, Rhayader (a Royal British Legion home), also notice of 60th anniversary lunch at The Angel Hotel, on November 16, supported by the Co-operative Community Fund. Speaker for the evening was Ralph Mason on the Talking Newspaper. Next committee meeting will be held on Monday (one week early at Pershore WMC) as the branch will be holding a tombola at Pershore Carnival on Bank Holiday Monday, May 29.

The next branch meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 6 when the speaker will be Mrs Ruth Davis from the Citizens Advice Bureau.

LADIES GUILD: Mrs Alex Brown, vice-chairman, welcomed 72 members to the meeting. She then introduced the speaker for the afternoon, Miss Jean Harper. Miss Harper's subject was Herbs and Things. She told members how herbs had been used for many hundreds of years for many purposes including food, medicine, colouring and dyeing and beauty treatments. The vote of thanks was given by Betty Loach.

Outings for the next two months were brought to the attention of the members who were able to note their interest.

The business part of the afternoon followed the tea break when a warning was given to alert members about the need to keep a close eye on their credit and debit cards and to check their bank statements because of card cloning. Various reports were given and the progress of several members who had been unwell was discussed. The sales table raised £23. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, June 6 in Wulstan Hall at 2p.m. when Ms Christine Ritchie will give a talk on Companion to an Arabian Princess. The sales table will be sweets and chocolates. Visitors are welcome.

INNER WHEEL: A charity lunch was held at Peopleton village hall on April 20 in aid of St Richard's Hospice. After lunch members were entertained by local actor Vincent Ricotta with anecdotes from his acting life, including appearances in the films Captain Corelli's Mandolin and Under the Tuscan Sun. More than £1,000 was raised for St Richard's Hospice.
