GARDENING CLUB: Members were welcomed to the meeting and reminded that next month a garden walkabout will replace the usual meeting with alternative plans for an indoor event should the weather be bad. Tickets for the annual garden party, to be held on July 14, were on sale. The club trip to the Malvern Spring Show had been greatly enjoyed by those attending it. This month's competition was for the biggest leaf and it was won by Mary Phillipson.

The chairman welcomed Andy Bateman, the speaker. Andy runs the exotic plant nursery, Mulu, and had brought with him a selection of palms, bamboos, gingers and other exotics. He told his audience that he often hears the phrase I want a jungle in my garden, spoken by customers at his nursery and the idea of creating a fantasy world with plants had long been used in films. The chairman thanked Andy.
