Churchdown Panthers 3, Tewkesbury Town 4 TOWN progressed to the second round of the County Cup after negotiating a tricky away tie against Cheltenham League opposition.
With injuries still weakening the squad, Town again changed their line-up but they started slowly and Churchdown scored after five minutes.
The visitors hit back but were unable to make the most of good chances until an own-goal following Joe Goodwin's inswinging corner levelled matters.
It wasn't long before Town took the lead when a quick free-kick on the edge of the box from Leom Holley sent Ban Jackson through to rifle the ball into the roof of the net.
Churchdown took advantage of sloppy defending to level soon after the break but Tewkesbury replied straightaway when Jackson's header against the crossbar was nodded home on the line by captain Dave Goodwin.
Substitute Paul Kavanagh appeared to put the game out of reach for Churchdown when he put a great ball through to Jackson who calmly lifted the ball over the oncoming keeper for 4-2 but the Panthers got a third when goalkeeper Burton was caught off his line to set up a frantic finish.
There's a a top of the table Cheltenham League fourth division clash with Gaffers on Saturday.
The Sunday side was trailing 3-1 when their Evesham League match against Defford and Besford was abandoned after 40 minutes due to a waterlogged pitch.
Stuart McCash netted Town's goal from the penalty spot after a foul on James Heath.
Tewkesbury play host to Alderton this weekend.
