Carol tops category

TEWKESBURY Athletic Club fielded skeleton teams for the first of this season's cross country events at Black Bridge in Gloucester.

2012 Olympic prospect Emily Pidgeon led from start to finish but Tewkesbury's own accomplished international, Angie Sadler, led the Tewkesbury team of three over a non-demanding 7.1 km course when finishing in 12th place.

Club Captain Cathy Dudfield was just two minutes adrift in 31st and, a minute later, Carol Cowley crossed the line to scoop another V55 top spot to secure the veterans prize.

The men's team were two runners short of the requisite six for the 11.2K run but Andy Hawkins demonstrated expert running for a top 25 finish.

Times - Women: 12 A Sadler 31.13; 31 C Dudfield 34.28. Men: 23 A Hawkins 40.01; 32 Jon Mansfield 41.09; 3 Stuart Dudfield 46.52; 107 Phillip Howells 49.32.

Brother and sister Jason Draper and Lisa Kane took part in the annual Rotary 10K at Blenheim Palace and Jason was one of just 20 runners to break the 40-minute mark when crossing the line in 16th place.

His sister, meanwhile, clocked 50.58 for 212th.
