PARISH Council: At the September meeting, chaired by Cllr Tony Wilkins, the parish council heard from Mr Charles Barlow, the rural housing enabler at Warwickshire Rural Community Council, about the progress of the Ilmington housing scheme. He explained the occupancy restrictions meant only people with local connections could apply for the housing, but if one was empty and no one with a local connection wanted it, then it would be offered to someone in a neighbouring parish. These were the conditions which already operated with regard to the affordable houses in Cross Leys. With the private houses to be built, if after being on the market for three months, no one with a local connection wanted to buy one of the houses, then anyone in the Stratford district could buy it. Mr Barlow said negotiations were proceeding with landowners for the purchase of suitable land, and four sites were being looked at. One landowner has said he would consider it, and the county council would also consider selling some land. The other two landowners, who lived adjacent to the land being considered, were concerned about the effect new housing would have on the value of their own houses. Mr Barlow said the houses would be of a high standard, comparable with those built recently at Long Compton, and there might be two smaller schemes instead of all the houses being together. He would like to have a public consultation at the end of the year, with three or four sites to put to the village, and a possible venue could be the bazaar to be held in the village hall on December 2. It was stressed no decision had been made. read more
