Promotion hopes given a six-hit shove

ALDERTON moved into promotion contention in Division Two of the Birdseye Sports Evesham and District Sunday League after a six-goal defeat of Defford and Besford.

Tinder (2), Ellis, M Reid, G Reid and Mitchell scored the six goals that leaders Moreton Town bettered by two as they opened up a nine-point lead after an eight-goal demolition of Tewkesbury Town.

Ben Shurmer led the way with four goals with Chris Mills (2), Andy Borton and Matt Barnes joining in the fun.

Fairfield Sports look destined for a quick return to Division Four following a heavy defeat at Ashton for whom A Clements(2), C Clements, Gregg, White and Haines found the net with Harrison on target for the losers.

Queens took a step towards safety with victory over fading Broadway United Reserves thanks to goals from Ross, Beese and McAdam.

Tesco United progressed in the Evesham Mechanical Services Subsidiary Cup as goals from Turley and Kennedy helped defeat Pebworth.

A first half strike from Tony McLean earned Upton Snodsbury the first division points at Willersey, while Lee Tustin struck twice as basement club Offenham Rovers gained a point at Peopleton for whom Andrews bagged a brace.

Ambassador reached the final of the Pershore Hospital Junior Cup with a late winner against Bretforton Old Boys, while Bredon, Pinvin United, Crowle and Oddfellows Arms all progressed in the Minor Cup.
