Villagers sign up for Lord's quest

REIGNING Cotswold Hills League champions Bretforton have been handed a home draw in the second round of cricket's 2007 npower Village Cup.

Bretforton will face Holt and Grimley on Sunday, May 13 in the Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Powys group with the winners facing a stiff task in the next round if they are to keep alive their dream of a trip to Lord's.

Awaiting the winners are either Colwall or Astwood Bank and it was the latter who ended the Station Road club's interest in the competition last season.

Ashton have received in the first round and will face a visit to either Swan Alfrich or Belbroughton, Overbury visit Cookley, while Offenham will play host to Cutnall Green.

Former finalists Exhall and Wixford have a repeat of last season's match against Hunningham in the second round when victory in the Leicestershire and Warwickshire group clash will see them locking horns with another old foe in the shape of Fillongley.

Fellow Cotswold Hills Leaguers Tanworth-in-Arden face a May 13 trip to Billesdon.

Twyning have been given a trip to Coalpit Heath in the bottom half of the Gloucestershire group where Bredon will play host to Dumbleton on May 13. Slaughters United have been given a home second round date with either Frampton-on-Severn or Kingsholm.

Batsford, meanwhile, who are likely to include players from Moreton-in-Marsh, have been drawn away to Haresfield.

And, finally, Bledington will be in action in the Oxfordshire group where they will face a daunting trip to former finalists Tiddington in the second weekend of May.

The winners of that tie could then come up against another club that has tasted the experience of Lords if Shipton-under-Wychwood can get the better of Warborough and Shillingford.
