Stratford stages premier race meeting

THE premier fixture of Stratford's racing calendar takes place next weekend when more than £170,000 worth of prize money will be on offer.

The Pertemps People Development Group Cup is being staged on Friday and Saturday evenings with the highlight the 50th running of the Pertemps Cup Champion Hunters' Steelplechase for the Horse and Hound Cup.

That race is one of seven on Saturday when the opener gets under starter's orders at 5.45pm. The previous night the curtain is dropped on the six-race card at 6.10pm.

The British Point to Point fraternity will be present in large numbers on Friday to attend the 31st annual Point to Point Owners' and Riders Association awards luncheon.

To celebrate the 50th staging of the Horse and Hound Cup, there will be a photographic display of all the winners from the last 50 years in a marquee close to the main entrance.

Admission on both nights starts from as little as £8 for the Centre Course/Picnic Area, while Club admission is £18 and Tattersalls £14.
