Motorised mayhem at Long Marston track

ETTINGTON'S Steve Goode is expected to debut this amazing piece of motorised mayhem, a drag racer called Wobble', at this weekend's Yanks event being held at Stratford-upon-Avon's Shakespeare County Raceway.

Classed as a nitro-fuelled supercharged outlaw in every sense of the word, Goode's blown seven-litre Plymouth 5-Window hot rod' took its first tentative steps at a Test and Tune outing earlier this month much to the amazement of hundreds of onlookers who had never seen a beast of this magnitude before.

An automotive fabricator by trade, Goode will be joined at Yanks by ten other teams with similar set-ups in dragsters and doorslammers as a celebration of Detroit's finest car makers.

The weekend is also expected to herald the arrival of 200 or so muscle cars to the area in addition to those driven from the south of the country by members of Surrey Muscle, Mopar Muscle and Taz Racing.

They will contest the 30th running of Gary's Picnic, one of the oldest established rod and custom street drags in the National Association of Street Clubs NASC calendar.

Also expected to appear at the two-day extravaganza is Simon Bogulak's 1972 Plymouth Roadrunner. Recreated as a 70s period replica NASCAR stocker car with the colours of the legendary 43 of seven-time American stock car champ King' Richard Petty.

Bokulak's racer is motivated by a 340ci V8 which, at the moment, is good for 15-second quarter-miles soon to be updated with a bigger engine for more straight line speed!

To see the coolest cars in town, Yanks is taking place at the Long Marston venue on Saturday and Sunday.
