A LIVELY tribute will be paid to the wild man of rock ‘n’ roll next weekend.
The Huntingdon Hall plays host to Killer – The Jerry Lee Lewis Story on Friday, January 27, at 8pm.
The night is presented by John Banner Charity Promotions, as part of the Let’s Rock ‘n’ Roll series, it features Peter Gill and his astonishing keyboard skills backed by his band.
As the opening night of an extensive tour it promises to have all the music, energy, tragedy and glory of the real life story, as it follows his meteoric rise to fame through hits such as Great Balls of Fire and Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On.
It moves on to his equally fast fall from grace when he married his 13- year-old cousin Myra and then back to his reinstatement as one of music’s biggest names with his triumphant return to the top in the mid-1960s when he performed at the Star Club in Hamburg, Germany.
Organiser and promoter John Banner hopes the night can remind people that the rock and roll spirit is as strong as ever.
He said: “I often hear about people who went to the Gaumont to see people like Buddy Holly and this is a reminder that rock and roll is still alive and well. The show is basically where you can get up and dance if you want to or sit and watch if the bones aren’t what they used to be.”
It will features more than 20 of his hits and all of the chairs at the front of the hall will be removed specially for the occasion, to allow for plenty of room for people to take to their feet and dance the night away.
The first half is more of a sit tight and watch affair, although dancing is welcome, but it is in the second where things really kick into life and the rockers can relive their teenage years.
Tickets are available at £14.50 (£12.50 concessions) with all proceeds in aid of Acorns Children’s Hospice. For more information and tickets go to worcesterlive.com or call 01905 611427.
The Journal has two tickets to give away for Killer – The Jerry Lee Lewis Story.
