Zumba fun at the Wheatpieces Community Centre
Tewkesbury's business organisation, the Chamber of Commerce, who have been providing Christmas Lights for the town for the last 15 years, say they are finding it increasingly difficult to find sufficient cash to fund the lights.
The cost of hiring suitably qualified contractors to errect and dismantle the festive lighting displays in Barton Street, Church Street and the high street amounts to around £10,000 each year. This sum also includes insurance, maintenance, safety checks and replacement bulbs. The whole project is a mammoth task undertaken by only a handful of unpaid volunteers, and organisers are hoping local businesses will come forward with offers of support and financial assistance. One local business person, Sue Adsett who runs Zumba classes in and around Tewkesbury, is organsing a fundraising Zumbathon on Saturday 3 November to raise funds for the lights. Sue says "The Zumbathon is a free event open to all families who want to have fun and raise funds for the Christmas lights. Both children and adults are welcome to come along next Saturday, if you have never tried Zumba before now is your chance. Stay for just half an hour or try the whole three hours its up to you!" The Zumbathon is taking place on Saturday 3 November from 2 to 5 pm. Entry is free. Children's class, Zumbatomic is 2.30 to 3 pm and there will be Zumba taster, Zumba Toning, and Zumba Sentao as well as a grand Free For All Finale at 4.30 pm. A raffle and refreshments will be available. For more information contact Sue on 0770 838 1310.
