Local organiser Sally Phillips is hoping people will give generously to this year's Poppy Day appeal in Tewkesbury.
"There are still people getting hurt in Afghanistan and Iraq and they need taking care of just as much as the old soldiers," she said A house-to-house collection is already going well, although more volunteers would be welcome, as will collectors for the street collections on Friday and Saturday, November 10 and 11.
The garden of remembrance in the Abbey opens with a service at 11am on Monday, November 6.
Demand for the small wooden crosses placed there as a tribute to loved ones who lost their lives fighting for their country, are selling so well that Mrs Phillips has had to order more.
The town's annual service of remembrance takes place at the war memorial on Sunday, November 12.
Anyone willing to help with either the house-to-house or street collections should call 01684 295836.
