Gloucester Cathedral to host recitals and concerts to mark 100th anniversary of Benjamin Britten's birth

Four local organizations have joined forces to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Benjamin Britten’s birth in 2013 through a series of recitals and concerts in Gloucester city centre.

Cheltenham Bach Choir, Gloucester Cathedral Choir, Gloucester Choral Society and Gloucester Music Society will present ten events from October through to December, ranging from intimate song recitals to a large-scale community opera.

Cumulatively, the four groups have a history of 793 years of music-making in Gloucestershire. Although there are strong links between them, this is the first time they have worked together to promote a series of concerts in this way. By pooling their ideas and resources, they hope to attract flocks of music lovers to the city from every part of Gloucestershire, up from Bristol and from over the border in Wales.

A brochure giving further details of the Festival and how to buy tickets for the concerts will be available in March.
