The Environment Agency has just issued a flood warning for the River Severn at Callow End and Court Meadow, in Kempsey.

It also says that the flood defences and pumping station at Kempsey are functioning properly.

Worcestershire is bracing itself for more flooding.

River levels across the county have risen rapidly throughout the day, leading to floodgates being closed in Upton and sand bags being handed out in Evesham, Droitwich and Pershore to help residents defend their homes.

Temporary flood barriers will be going up in Bewdley tomorrow morning.

In Worcester South Quay is already underwater while the river Teme at Powick is starting to spill over into the surrounding fields.

The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert on the River Severn in Worcestershire and area manager David Throup said that, on current predictions, the Severn should peak in Worcester on Tuesday afternoon, at about half a metre below its highest level at the Christmas floods.


The Teme and Avon are predicted to peak tonight but with melting snow already placing rivers under strain, any more rain could make a dramatic difference.


“Those predictions are solely based on the water that's already in the system, from the snowmelt and the overnight rainfall,” said Mr Throup. “If we get more rain, as the Met Office is forecasting for Tuesday and later in the week, that could change the picture.


"Even if it does not rain heavily in Worcestershire, rain on the Welsh mountains will come down the Severn and the Teme and cause us a few problems."


The Met Office is forecasting that tomorrow will start off chilly and bright, but will cloud over during the morning, with strong winds bringing outbreaks of heavy rain throughout the afternoon.


Tuesday is set to be wet and very windy, while Wednesday will continue windy, but brighter with a few showers.

WORK to clear debris from under Worcester Bridge has been completed without the need to bring in a big crane.

Staff from the Environment Agency have been out on the Severn in boats to clear away the debris which accumulated during the flooding in December.   

Originally it was thought a large crane would be needed to finish the job, but this morning, Dave Throup of the agency said that the task had been completed by his crews yesterday.

Today will be a bright and breezy day with lengthy spells of sunshine and a brisk westerly wind, says the Met Office.

Just the odd heavy shower possible, most likely in the west. Maximum temperature 8 C.

Tonight will remain largely dry and clear, though still with the chance of an isolated shower in the west.

A patchy frost is likely by dawn. Minimum temperature 0 C.

Monday will start chilly and bright, but clouding over during the morning, with strong winds bringing outbreaks of rain, heavy at times, throughout the afternoon. Maximum temperature 9C.

FOLLOWING heavy rain and snowmelt overnight, the Environment Agency has issued flood warnings for the rivers Severn, Teme and Avon.

On the Severn, at 7 am today, the level at the Worcester gauge was 2.64 metres and rising. A peak of between 4.5 and 5 metres is expected to occur tomorrow afternoon.

The level at the Diglis Gauge was 2.23 metres and rising. A peak of between 4 and 4.5 metres is expected to occur tomorrow afternoon.

And at Saxons Load, near Upton, the level was 3.04 metres and rising. A peak of between 4.5 and 5 metres is expected to occur tomorrow afternoon.

On the Teme at 9.30am today, the level at Stanford Bridge was 4.01 metres and rising; the level at Tenbury was 3.2 metres and rising. A peak of between 3.5 and 3.8 metres is expected to occur this afternoon.

On the Avon at 7am today, the level at Evesham was 2.5 metres and rising. A peak of between 2.5 and 2.8 metres is expected to occur tomorrow afternoon.

Sandbags are available from Pershore Civic Centre, Evesham Contact Centre and, from noon, the Lido car park in Droitwich.

Worcestershire County Council reports that the B4088 Eckington Bridge and the C2022 Jubilee Bridge at Fladbury are both closed by flooding.
