Update: Suspected arson attack at Ross-on-Wye charity shop

POLICE are appealing for information following a suspected arson attack at a charity shop in Ross-on-Wye.

Eight firefighters from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service quickly extinguished the fire in a storage area on the first floor of Barnardo's charity shop in the town centre before it had chance to spread.

Police say the shop was broken in to via a back door at around 11pm on Friday (January 25) and said the cause of the fire is yet to be established but it 'may have been started deliberately'.

Station Commander Neil Pigott, with HWFRS, praised fire crews for their rapid response.

He said: "This was a severe fire right in the heart of Ross town centre and it certainly had the potential to spread to other buildings nearby.

"Thankfully our crews worked quickly and were able to bring the fire under control, preventing damage to other properties in the area.”

Anyone with information can call Ross-on-Wye police station on 0300 333 3000, quoting 694S 250113.
