Fundraising sale in aid of polio campaign next week
10:55am Wednesday 12th February 2014 in News
A CHARITABLE group in Worcester is holding a sale and exhibition later this month to raise awareness of a campaign working to stamp out polio across the world.
The event at Gwillam’s Farm Shop in Ombersley Road, Bevere, run by the Worcester Vigornia Rotary Club will run from 9am until 5pm on Friday, February 21 and Saturday, February 22.
Members of the club will be on hand to answer questions about the End Polio Now campaign and purple crocus badges will be on offer along with a wide range of cookery books.
Club member Celia Gardner said: “Polio kills and paralyses young children.
“It spreads like wildfire. There’s no cure, but it can be prevented through immunisation.”
“Twenty-five years ago polio struck 350,000 children each year – but thanks to the work of Rotary and others there were only 223 cases in 2012.
“We are so close to a polio-free world so please visit us at Gwillam’s to help make history.
“We need to conquer polio once and for all.”
The group meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of every month at the Fownes Hotel in City Walls Road.
