ADVERTS inviting people to tender for the running of the annual Tewkesbury Mop Fair have gone out in news and trade papers.
The fair has been run by the Showmen's Guild for over 26 years, but at they end of last year the borough council refused to renew their five year agreement with guild, and decided instead to put the running of the event out to tender.
The fact that the advertisements have already gone out was revealed at last week's meeting of the full council, when local member, John McCloy asked for a progress report.
The town council is strongly opposed to the change, and vowed to fight it to the last man.
The fair society too is opposed to the change, but says it will be tendering for the job of running it.
