CLEEVE School headmaster Allen McConaghie has been praised for his work proving that boys can just as well as girls academically.
He was singled out for praise at a conference for outstanding schools and colleges, to which he was invited after an outstanding Ofsted report.
Nationally boys do not do a well as girls in exams, but Mr McConaghie said: "Too often people have lower expectations of boys and I simply cannot accept that boys will be boys' - they have the same potential it is just a case of finding a way to harness it."
The school uses sport to harness the boys' interest and applies setting by ability from day one.
This, they believe gives them a clear expectation of each child's potential.
The success of the scheme is show in their latest GCSE results These show that 91 per cent of boys and 94 per cent of girls achieved grade C or above in French and 94 percent of boys and 92 per cent of girls gained two grade Cs or above in Science.
