YOUTH worker Jeremy Tansley hopes the re-opening of Tewkesbury Youth Club will help bring a sense of closure to young people who suffered in last summer's floods.
Although the club has been up and running for several weeks, its official opening will be on Friday, April 11.
Members are busy preparing for the big day, with most of their work being on a flood theme. The sports hall is being covered in graffiti, starting with images of flood signs and things under water. As the mural progresses around the room, it will get brighter and sunnier, symbolising things are getting better.
The project is being led by artists from Urban Edge, who are also teaching members how to break dance and DJ.
Local young people's author Sue Mayfield is working with pupils at Tewkesbury School and at the youth club to help them express their thoughts and feelings about last summer in stories, poems and songs.
The results of their work will be produced as a multi media package, and possibly also in book form. This will be launched at the official opening in April.
Jeremy said: "We are working mainly with young people who are still living in temporary accommodation. It is very difficult for many of them, with whole families living together in very close proximity, with no real privacy.
"I hope that the official opening of the club will help bring a sense of closure to last summer's events for some of them."
