Is your teddy ready?

IS YOUR teddy brave enough for the Teddy ride of death?

This is the question local children are being asked by vicar, Cannon Paul Williams The death defying ride, from the abbey tower into the vicarage garden, is just one of the attractions at the new look Abbey Fete.

Anyone who thinks their furry friend would like to take part should take them along to the Fete, in the Abbey Ground on Bank Holiday Monday, May 26 where the rides will be organised in small groups.

"They will be sent down in small nets, so it is all perfectly safe," he said This is just one of the innovations at the new look fete.

Gone this year will be the familiar giant marquee, and the stalls that were traditionally housed in there - including plant, book and cake stalls, and what could be the worlds largest bric a brac stall - will all be housed instead inside the Abbey.

Outside the East End of the church will be selection of traditional children's fair rides, including swing boats and chair planes.

Arena events will include Punch and Judy, a display by Tewkesbury Belly Dancers, and the town band.

There will also be a grand draw, with prizes including a Mira shower worth £400 and £100 in cash Organiser, Abbey Secretary Philippa Shaw said; "We wanted to give the event a boost and provide more to keep the children entertained."

The fete will open at 11.30 and close after the grand draw at 4.30.
