Taxi fares set to increase

TAXI fares could rise by over 20 percent in Tewkesbury Borough.

Since the tariff was last reviewed in September 2006 the average cost of a litre of diesel has risen from 95.3 p to 132.2p an increase of 38.7 per cent.

Currently all the licensed taxies in the borough run on this fuel.

The licensing committee will meet on Monday (July 28) to review the charges.

They are recommending increases that will increase the cost of a two mile journey from £4.40 to £5.40before 9pm and from £6 to £7 at night and on Sundays.

This compares with £5.40 and £6.75 in Cheltenham and £4.80 and £6.20 in Gloucester.
