ANTI-SOCIAL behaviour in Tewkesbury is being dealt with according to the latest update from local police.
Chris Scott, a member of Tewkesbury’s Safer Community Team, revealed that two of the force’s three community plans had now been closed meaning that efforts in tacking anti-social behaviour, particularly outside the Northway Co-op and Morrison’s supermarket, had been successful.
He also noted that considerable progress had been made in regards to a third plan - anti-social behaviour at Derek Graham memorial playing field, off Walton Cardiff Lane.
However, police made clear that retaining this as a priority for a further three months would give them the opportunity to ‘deliver long term improvement’, by installing measures such as enhanced lighting.
The two closed plans have now been replaced with the following: • Anti social behaviour and criminal damage at the Back-of-Avon • Anti social behaviour at Tirlebrook and Alderman Knight Schools PC Scott said: “In the Back-of-Avon we have carried out a number of both high visibility and covert patrols. This has led to a number of youths being interacted with.
“So far the youths’ conduct, observed both by uniformed and plain clothed officers, has been excellent.
“We also continue to maintain a positive relationship with youth housing association facility, Tolsey House, who were kind enough to host a barbeque encouraging local residents, police and the inhabitants of the facility to share a burger and break down some barriers and misconceptions on all sides.
“A positive enforcement in this area came only last week when a male in his 40’s was stopped by myself and my colleague, PCSO Simpson, and was found to be in possession of a quantity of cannabis.
“He was subsequently arrested and cautioned.
“At Tirlebrook and Alderman Knight schools, PCSO Piper has patrolled the area frequently in conjunction with the installation of a mosquito device.
“These emit a high pitched noise undetectable to ears over 25years of age but painful to those younger. Teachers have already commented on a vast improvement and we have received no further reports of any bad behaviour.
“In other news, I personally recovered a ‘mini-motorbike’ that was being used late into the evening on the Vineyards to the distress of local residents.
“My plan is to have the bike stripped down and the parts used as part of the very positive Whaddon mini-moto project in Cheltenham, where youngsters are encouraged to come and ride these bikes in a safe supervised environment at a time that is friendlier to the community at large.
“The Halloween and Bonfire night period can be a difficult as well as fun period.
“Under Operation NIGHTSHINE Tewkesbury officers had additional resources at the right times to make sure this period passed on the whole without incident. The only occurrence of note involved a local man who is the subject of an anti social behaviour order (ASBO) preventing him from being in possession of fireworks.
“This was issued in following a number of convictions relating to fire.
“PCSO Karl Simpson observed him with a quantity of rockets and despite him initially making off from the police we were ultimately able to arrest him for the offence. The outcome is pending.”
