TEWKESBURY Borough Council’s flood risk improvement plans have been given a boost after its executive committee agreed to adopt its Land Drainage Report.
The report identifies vital changes that need to be made to ensure the land drainage service in Tewkesbury becomes even more effective in reducing the risk of flooding.
There are around 200 land drainage projects across the borough that will benefit from the proposed changes - which include setting up a new Flood Risk Management Group to oversee progress, as well as ensuring the borough’s Flood Response Action Plan is focusing on the right projects at the right time.
The adopted report will also mean the service will benefit from a one-off funding of £120,000, with an extra £32,000 added to the land drainage budget each year.
Tewkesbury Borough Council’s lead member for clean and green Environment, Coun Jim Mason, said: “Land drainage is a vital service, it’s central to protecting our residents from the risks of flooding.
“Now that this report has been adopted, we can focus on working with the county council to deliver an excellent service at value-for-money.”
