TEWKESBURY Town Centre looks set to benefit from a huge regeneration project following a decision by the council’s executive committee.
The committee agreed the go-ahead for a Tewkesbury Town Centre Masterplan, which aims to bring together existing regeneration projects and create an agreed vision for the town.
The masterplan will aim to identify and address opportunities for the town centre; guide development, including potential housing growth and the associated need for facilities; improve design quality; protect and enhance the town’s natural and heritage assets and develop ways to make Tewkesbury’s town centre stand out from its competitors.
It follows on from Tewkesbury Borough Council’s success in a bid for a funding for the project from the Rural Masterplan Fund.
The Borough Council has put £30,000 towards the project and the Rural Masterplan Fund awarded a further £24,000.
Tewkesbury Borough Council’s lead member for built environment, Coun Derek Davies, will sit on the Programme Board for the project.
He said: “The Tewkesbury Town Centre Masterplan is a key priority project for us and we are looking forward to working with residents, businesses and organisations to achieve a united vision.”
