Residents to take possession of Borough's new recycling bins

HOUSEHOLDS in Tewkesbury have begun to receive their recycling bins and food waste caddies as part of the Borough’s new recycling and waste collection scheme.

The bins are being delivered with an instruction leaflet, a collection calendar and a roll of compostable food waste caddy liners for residents to use in their kitchen caddies.

Tewkesbury Borough Council’s lead member for clean and green environment, Coun Jim Mason, said: “The delivery of the new bins marks the first visible change to our recycling and waste collection scheme.

“We are asking residents to continue to use their current recycling boxes until the scheme starts on April 12 - and the blue bin can be used to store plastic bottles and cardboard until then.

“I encourage residents to keep hold of their new collection calendars as these hold the collection dates for the rest of the year.”

Tewkesbury Borough Council was awarded funding from DEFRA to provide the initial roll of food waste liners for the weekly food collection, while residents can buy subsequent rolls from local shops.

The council has stressed it is important that the correct liners are used and if residents are unsure they can look out for the seedling logo.

The food waste caddies can also be lined with newspaper, which the council says is an excellent addition to the composting process.

Residents have been asked not to use plastic carrier or shopping bags as they cannot be composted and will not be collected.

If residents have not had their bins delivered but have noticed that other households in the same street have, they have been instructed to wait 48 hours before reporting it as the containers may be on a separate delivery vehicle.

After 48 hours residents can report an undelivered bin to 01684 272279.
