Youth arrested in disturbance

Several Tewkesbury teenagers were arrested following a disturbance in the town involving a large group of youths.

Others were also arrested and police have warned they may be seeking Anti-Social Behaviour Orders as they clamp down on unruly conduct.

Officers were called to the High Street at about 7pm on Friday, September 29 following a report that 10 youths were intimidating passers-by at bus stop near Boots.

The rowdiness, including shouting and swearing and youths pushing each other around, increased when about 15 more young people got off a bus.

Police officers and police community support officers made several arrests and confiscated alcohol.

An 18-year-old male from Tewkesbury who was arrested for affray and received a formal caution. A 17-year-old boy, who lives in the town was also arrested for affray and given a final warning.

Another 18-year-old male from Tewkesbury was charged with using words and behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress and was given bail to appear before Gloucester Youth Court on Thursday, October 19.

A 15-year-old from Churchdown was charged with the same offence and bailed to appear at Cheltenham Magistrates' Court also on Thursday, October 19.

A 16-year-old male from Tewkesbury who was arrested for disorderly conduct and bailed to return to the police station on Wednesday, November 1 pending inquiries.

Sgt Nick Butt, of Tewkesbury Police, said: "This type of behaviour is unacceptable and I can reassure residents we will be coming down hard on it seeking Anti-Social Behaviour Orders where appropriate. We would ask parents to support us in our drive to reduce the number of incidents of rowdiness in the town by ensuring they know what their son or daughter is up when they go out."
