Village's show to mark its 60th year

AS the excitement of the Diamond Jubilee begins to subside, plans are well under way for a much-loved village show which will be celebrating its own 60th anniversary this year.
The Hanleys Village Show was first held to raise money for the village hall.
Now the organising committee are hard at work ensuring this year’s show, which takes place over the late summer bank holiday weekend on Saturday, August 25, is one of the best yet.
Committee chairman Hilary Fowler said it is “testament to the community” that the show remains so well supported.
“Over the years, while the theme remains as a show where we have displayed the efforts of our gardens, it has grown into a showcase for the talent we have in the village, with categories ranging from cookery to handicrafts, floral art, photography and jam,” she added.
