THE Fire Service College, at Moreton, has been short listed to win the United Kingdom’s top training accolade after receiving an award from former world champion athlete, Colin Jackson.

The London Road campus won the Providers of Education and Training category in the United Kingdom National Training Awards’ regional round, which also featured four other categories.

Along with the other category winners, the college received its award from the ex-110-metre hurdler at a regional ceremony in Birmingham.

All the winners now progress to a gala ceremony to be held at London’s Royal Lancaster Hotel on December 11, at which they will learn if they have won the national Winner of the Year prize for their category.

In conjunction with Communities and Local Government in London and The Fire and Rescue Service at Mansfield, the college also won the West Midlands Training Award Partnership and Collaboration award.

The college’s Richard Johnes meanwhile won the individual West Midlands Training regional award.

Sponsored by City and Guilds and supported by Investors in People, UK Skills run the awards on behalf of the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills.

Mr Jackson said: ““This year's recipients have set the benchmark high and have proven that, in today's competitive market, high quality training is an integral part of both personal and business development.”
