A FEW weeks ago you published a letter from Richard Thomson, in which he decried the state of the pavements in the centre of Evesham, especially in the area of the Allee de Dreux. Mr Thomson called on the county council, as the responsible authority, to use some of the money paid by Hotchief as penalty for the delay in finishing the Abbey Road Bridge to make good the aforesaid pavements. His letter was met with a thundering silence by the county council, despite the fact that the cabinet member responsible for these matters is a local councillor.

DOMINIC Dyer of the Badger Trust and Care for the Wild is correct when he states that culling badgers is "ill-conceived" and "will contribute nothing to reducing bovine TB in cattle" (Journal, September 11).

REGARDING moving from primary to secondary school, as someone with 26 years' teaching experience, my advice would be to ignore hype and advertising such as "Number one choice for families across the North Cotswolds, South Warwickshire and Worcestershire".

WHAT a shame that Cotswold district councillors could not extend outside their "jobsworth" attitude and layers of obviously important red tape and try to assist the owners of the scrapyard on the A429 Moreton-Stratford road to regularise the business opportunity, instead of seeking to shut down a fledgling business enterprise (Journal, August 28).

MOST patients are not in hospital these days long enough perhaps for them to complain. I spent four unexpected weeks in the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch and lost weight as a result of the appalling food.

FURTHER to Richard Thomson's excellent letter in the Journal of August 21, would it not be as good idea to earmark some of the county council's windfall from penalty charges for the Abbey Bridge delays – currently estimated at £360,000 – to improving the town centre and, specifically, the deplorable state of some of the paving in the town centre?

FOLLOWING the confusion in the Evesham Journal as to whether Evesham United FC were playing home or away on 29/8/2014, I would like to advise your readers on behalf of The EUFC Supporters Club that we regularly distribute home fixtures lists to various retailers and businesses in and around Evesham, and we are very appreciative that they are willing to display them.

YOU quote Peter Luff MP as responding to communities’ impotence about housing, saying (Letters, July 17): “I condemn the opportunism of developers who have wickedly exploited the current position in Wychavon etc”.
