THE newly formed Evesham Festival Players, the group behind Evesham's outdoor theatre project, now has two dates confirmed for upcoming productions.

The first is Under Milk Wood which will be performed at the Evesham Methodist Church over two evenings on Friday and Saturday, June 27 and 28.

This will be followed by The Canterbury Tales, for which rehearsals are well under way, and will be performed in the open air at Evesham Country Park on Friday and Saturday, July 18 and 19.

Organiser Eric Jones said: "Evesham already has plenty of good summer entertainment and events for visitors but these productions are a welcome addition.

"There is not a great deal of live theatre and this project involves a whole new set of people who have warmed to the idea of performing a play, especially in the open air."

For those who think they might be interested in taking part in The Canterbury Tales production there are still one or two parts available, especially for a man or young boy.

The present cast rehearses on Mondays and Thursdays and would urge those who want to be a part of the project to get in touch.

At a meeting on Monday, Evesham Town Council said it would continue to support the outdoor theatre project and agreed on funding worth £3,500.

However, concern was expressed over the role of the weather in the upcoming performances.
