AROUND 8000 people munched their way around Tewkesbury Food Festival.

It took place on Saturday and Sunday in two huge marquees, set up on the Vineyards Visitors to the food hall were able to try a wide range of locally produced cheeses, wines, cakes, breads and beers and chocolates before buying and taking home anything that particularly suited their palate or ordering a regular delivery of organic fruit and vegetables through the box system In the cookery theatre they watched demonstrations by celebrity chefs Paul Rankin and Rob Rees, and a display on unusual ways of using chocolate with Prudence Staite.

Children were kept happy with a small animal farm, a food based arts workshop and by popular demand, the return of the vegetable Olympics.

Margaret Lucas, who helped run a stall by Friends of the Earth said; "It worked really well for us. We ran a quiz about food miles and it was highly successful.

"We printed 450 copies of the quiz sheet and they all went."

Borough Tourism officer, Julie Woods said: "We were a bit concerned as how the change of venue from the Abbey to the Vineyards would work but it was fin.

"We are delighted with the outcome -and definitely holding another food festival next year."
