TV presenter makes emergency landing at Gloucestershire airport
9:15am Friday 25th October 2013 in Tewkesbury
TV personality and student pilot Carol Vorderman made an emergency landing at Gloucestershire Airport yesterday during a solo training flight.
Her Piper PA28, four seat trainer developed a minor fault shortly after take-off causing a burning smell in the cockpit. Carol promptly initiated her emergency drills and returned to the Airport. Air Traffic Controllers alerted the Airport’s emergency services, who stood by as Carol landed safely. The Fire Appliance followed the aircraft back to the hangar as a precaution.
Carol has been learning to fly with Staverton Flying School at Gloucestershire Airport for a few months and is planning a round-the-world trip in 2014, following the route of Amelia Earhart.
Airport operations director, Darren Lewington said: - “This was the ‘textbook’ handling of a minor problem by Carol and our staff. Our teams train for incidents such as this regularly and Carol did a great job in reacting coolly and calmly.”
