Award-winning career coach could help people get job in recession

AN award-winning Tewkesbury career coach, Denise Taylor, has published an innovative new book to help people get a job in an economic downturn.

'How to get a job in a recession' was released this month and is set to be a best-seller for job-seekers across the UK.

The 380-page book offers individuals support throughout the entire job-seeking process.

Topics range from choosing what to apply for, tailoring a CV, getting through the interview process, right through to successful transition into a new role.

It is the latest in a long line of books written by Denise who has specialised in career development for over 20 years.

She has her own career coaching firm - Amazing People - and has published extensively in this area, having built up her own experience through a combination of educational credentials and industry expertise.

Denise boasts diplomas in coaching and counselling, a Master's degree in Occupational Psychology and an MBA in Business Administration.

Her distinguished membership of professional bodies includes being an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society; a founding member of the Association of Business Psychologists and a Registered Guidance Practitioner with the Institute of Careers Guidance.

In November 2007 Denise's expertise was recognised nationally when she won a National Career Award for The Gold Career Programme.

Since then she has appeared on TV and radio shows, including ITV's Tonight with Trevor McDonald where she provided advice in a special episode entitled 'How safe is your job?'

In fact, it was the encouragement and advice of the show's producer/director Asif Hasan that inspired her to write 'How to get a job in a recession'.

Mr Hasan said: "If you are trying to figure out where you are going wrong with your quest to get your career kick started Denise has plenty of tips and sound advice on how to put yourself on the pathway to a satisfying and rewarding career."

In the book readers are invited to answer questions about themselves and record their answers. Tables are designed to encourage readers to think clearly about how they are approaching their job search and highlight how to identify areas for improvement.

Additionally, readers can also follow the progress of people Denise has helped coach back into work, through a variety of case studies detailed throughout the book.

A chapter is devoted to the argument that despite the current economic downturn, the recession actually affords individuals the opportunity to embark on a refreshing career change.

Mum-of-two, Denise, said: "Looking for new employment is difficult at the best of times and with all the doom and gloom at the moment it is easy to feel like getting a new job is simply an impossible task.

"It's a catch-22 that one of the biggest hindrances to a successful job-search is a negative attitude. My book aims to show people that there are still opportunities out there, if you harness them correctly.

"'How to get a job in the recession' does exactly what it says on the tin - in a plain-speaking, easy to digest manner it teaches readers how to approach their job search with a positive mindset in order to give them the best possible chance of finally securing that dream job."
