Blockley dented by late strike
10:00am Sunday 28th October 2012 in Sport
BLOCKLEY suffered their first West Clubs Women’s League Severn Division One defeat of the season, going down 3-2 at home to Cheltenham thirds.
Play was even in the firsthalf with both teams close to breaking the deadlock.
Blockley’s defence was held together by captain Sam Jones, player-of-the-match Angela Reading-East, Charlie Geddes, Kitty Boyes and goalkeeper Claire Miles.
The hosts pressed forward and applied constant pressure but could not score and were 2-0 down by half-time.
Blockley came out strongly in the second period eager to pull a goal back and increasing pressure led to an opener from a well-timed run by Sabrina Rew. Shortly after, they equalised with a shot from the top of the ‘D’ by Debbie Honour that found the bottom left-hand corner.
However, just before the final whistle, Cheltenham scored a cruel winner.
