SHOOT OUT SUCCESS: Shipston-on-Stour Primary School girls' team.
SHIPSTON-on-Stour Primary girls were crowned South Warwickshire Schools’ Cup champions after a dramatic penalty shootout in Tiddington.
Just days after watching top women’s teams Birmingham City and Arsenal, they were inspired to raise their game.
The journey to the final saw Shipston win all three matches in Group One, beating Tanworth 2-0, The Willows 1-0 and Bridgetown 1-0.
They beat Bidford 2-1 after extra-time in the semis before a goalless draw against St Nicholas’ Primary, Alcester, ended in a 3-1 shoot-out success.
Keeper Catherine Harris made three outstanding saves, while Lucy Sampson, Catherine Harris and player-of-thetournament Georgia Cooke buried their spotkicks.
Jim Armstrong, PE leader at the school, said: “The girls’ attitude, enthusiasm and willingness to improve has made it a pleasure to coach them.”
