EVESHAM’S Michelle Parsons claimed fourth place in the Powerman World Series event in Italy.

She returned to the longdistance duathlon competition to boost her ranking in advance of the 2013 season and was greeted by a strong female field.

Racing for Team Tri UK, Parsons was happy to find race day warm and dry with only moderate winds.

Two 10-kilometre runs sandwiched a 60km six-lap bike course.

She finished the first run in the third group in around 38 minutes 25 seconds with leader Simone Helfenschneider from Austria around two minutes ahead.

Parsons moved away on the bike and into fourth position overall but Austrian Helfenschneider continued to build her lead.

On the final run, the places were all up for grabs and the leader held strong to come home first in two hours 54 minutes 20 seconds.

Parsons clinched fourth in 3.02.53 and is planning to finish her extended racing season at the Lanzarote 70.3 triathlon this month.
