Draw for Town after late strike

PERSHORE Town were denied by fourth-placed Coventry Copsewood after going ahead in the Athium Midland Football Combination Premier Division.

Scott Finnegan fired Town in front but they could not hold onto the lead despite an impressive display from centre- half Lewis Critcher.

Copsewood were awarded a penalty after only eight minutes for handball but Scott Furlong’s spot-kick was saved by keeper Matt Oliver.

The two sides cancelled each other out for the rest of the first-half before Finnegan struck five minutes into the second period.

The hosts made a flurry of substitutions and, just as 14th-placed Pershore seemed to be heading for only their fourth league win of the season, Michael Bawden and Henri Iknivi swooped for Coventry.

Pershore head to mid-table Bolehall Swifts in the league on Saturday (3pm).
