EVESHAM’S Edward Higson has secured his Great Britain place in the Laser 4.7 European and World Championships.

The 15-year-old Prince Henry’s High School pupil finished second in the qualifiers at Royal Lymington despite having to borrow a club boat.

His road trailer broke down early in the morning on the trip down to Hampshire.

Six races took place over two days on the River Solent in bitterly cold conditions with strengthening winds, rain and also sleet throughout.

With only three points between Higson and the race leader, it was enough to secure his place for the Euros and worlds in Hungary in July.

The Laser is a new type of boat for the Vale-based teenager and it was only his fourth event in the class. Higson is looking for sponsorship to help get to Hungary and anyone interested can call 07946- 752755.
