Treble for Marsh as Town in fine form

A FIRST-half hat-trick from Phil Marsh guided Pershore Town to a superb 3-1 success over high-flying Atherstone Town in the Athium Midland Combination.

The hosts produced an impressive all-round Premier Division display and took an early lead on four minutes.

The ball came out to Marsh on the left and he skipped past a defender before scoring with a low shot into the far corner of the net.

But Atherstone were level after 24 minutes when a cross found Lucas Allen who netted with a header.

Town regained the lead on 38 minutes when a corner from Matt Tyler was lobbed over the keeper by Marsh.

Two minutes later, the goal of the game arrived when superb work on the half-way line by Lewis Critcher found the ball at the feet of Marsh.

He skipped past two defenders and, although stumbling, still managed to fire a shot into the far corner to complete a superb hat-trick.

In the second-half, 13thplaced Pershore still looked dangerous and the Atherstone keeper produced fine saves from Marsh, substitute Richard Congrave and Scott Finnegan.

Town will not host Walsall Wood on Saturday, as the visitors have a FA Vase quarter-final, but they entertain Dudley Sports next Tuesday in a rearranged Worcestershire FA Senior Urn quarter-final.
