Granger tributes at league fixtures
4:20pm Sunday 3rd March 2013 in Sport
THERE was a subdued atmosphere at the latest round of Worcestershire Cricket Board Indoor League matches in Evesham’s Prince Henry’s Sports Centre.
Teams and officials held a minute’s silence for league stalwart Tim Granger after his sudden death.
Ashton-under-Hill (122-1) beat Bredon (121-2) by five wickets in the opening clash.
Bredon openers Clive Fenney (27 retired) and Tim Fenney (27ret) found the Ashton bowling to their liking but were helped by many wides.
The score progressed to 50 at 10 runs per over before Ashton slowed the rate despite the efforts of Jamie Munro (18 not out) and Jamie Diamond (16no).
Ashton started well as Will Archer (25ret) and Richard Cooper (27ret) reached 63 from four overs before Tom Archer (25ret) and Jack Murphy (23no) continued the run spree. They reached their target with 14 balls left.
Evesham Casuals (61-1) beat Badsey (59-6) by five wickets.
Apart from Joe Guisbourne (30), the Badsey batsmen could not come to terms with Casuals’ bowling with Lee Clarke (2-7) impressive.
When Guisbourne fell to Anthony Pratley (1-18), there were still more than two overs left.
Ash Icke (16) and Peter Cross (18no) reduced the target before the former was run out but Casuals won in the seventh over.
