Pershore edge rivals Evesham in junior league
PERSHORE pipped neighbours Evesham to the post in the Ross PGL Junior League first round at Droitwich Spa Leisure Centre.
They claimed 23 first places and 15 seconds to win with 125 points overall followed by Evesham (124), the hosts (120) and Haden Hill (113).
The competition is for swimmers aged between nine and 14 in individual and team relays over 60 events.
League rules state competitors who achieve a particularly fast time are handed a speeding ticket and no points. Pershore received nine and Evesham three.
Pershore head coach Tom Naughton said: “I’m delighted with the way the whole team performed.
"The PGL is an important format as it enables us to give our up-and-coming talent the opportunity for real competition.
"It was a close match with local clubs, fought in the right spirit, and we were thrilled to take the victory.”
Pershore were one of the strongest relay clubs, enjoying numerous first and second places before finishing with a 10x25-metre boys' cannon success.
The next league round is on Saturday, March 23.

- Five Evesham members attended the Luke Jeffrey memorial training day at Coventry.
Chloe Mabbett, Beth Carter, Amy Cooper, Luke Perry and James Carlsberg were all selected for their hard work and commitment to the club.
The day was set up by the 15-year-old's parents Melanie and Mark after he suffered from a shallow water blackout while training seven years ago and died.
The youngsters were coached by former Olympian Joanne Deakins, an Evesham club member, and Coventry head coach Adam Ruckwood.
Evesham head coach Jill Biddle also helped out and the swimmers were presented with certificates and badges.
