THE Evesham and District Wheelers’ annual road race proved a resounding success with 80 young riders tackling 99 kilometres.

A furious, tactical race, based around the Inkberrow Village Hall headquarters, saw three cyclists gain a twolength lead in the final 200- metre uphill sprint.

Former Wheelers members Ben and Tom Stockdale made every effort to take control but were never allowed to get too far ahead of the peloton.

Organiser Andrew Tarring was delighted with his first race as a small army of volunteers ensured an incidentfree contest, backed by Middle Littleton-based Kanes Foods, in cold conditions.

Will Bjergfelt (MG-Maxifuel Pro Cycling) won ahead of second-placed Matt Higgins and Tom Murray in third position.

The course comprised fourand- a-half laps of a 14-mile circuit of undulating roads.
