Competing for Herefordshire and Worcestershire, the 16- year-old won the boys’ under 17s octathlon championships in Birmingham with 5,359 points.

The Worcester Sixth Form College student, formerly of Prince Henry’s High School in Evesham, competes for Cheltenham Harriers.
Gardiner also represented Herefordshire and Worcestershire at the National Schools Track and Field Championships and the Midlands at the UK School Games, achieving a silver medal in the 4x400-metre relay.
