EVESHAM Colts lost their first game of the season in the North Midlands League with a 29-22 defeat at Hereford.
The visitors gifted Hereford an early try but Evesham led 9-5 at the interval after Mike Harris kicked two penalties and James Bishop one.
Hereford went over for a converted try at the start of the second period and it needed a couple of Ash Charlton penalties to keep them in touch.
But the hosts began to build the pressure and eventually scored two unconverted tries for a 29-15 lead with 10 minutes to go.
Evesham kept battling and Ben Middlicott touched down for a score, converted by Harris.
Fred Hopper was named man-of-the-match for a quietly efficient performance in the second-row.
