Promising opening to county championships for Evesham

EVESHAM Swimming Club made a fine start to the Worcester County Championships in Wolverhampton.

Four medals were secured by Evesham along with 37 personal bests and 38 top-10 finishes.

Nine-year-olds Mollie Cresswell, Sophie Pettit and Rachel Egan showed the future is bright for the club.

Cresswell won 400m individual medley silver in 7.34.75 and bronze in the 200m breaststroke (3.49.41) with Pettit fourth. The trio set 11 PBs and 11 top-10 finishes between them.

Heather Castle, 11, finished 10th in the 50m backstroke in 38.32. Amy Cooper, 12, swam seven events, setting PBs in the 100m individual medley (1.23.73) and 100m backstroke (1.21.16).

Martha Bailey, 13, finished in the top five in the 50m backstroke (35.36) alongside three top-10 positions.

Eleanor Tarring, 13, broke her 50m backstroke PB in 37.08. In the 15 to 16 age group, Chloe Mabbett bagged five top-10 finishes and a top five in the 50m backstroke (33.49). A PB came in the 200m freestyle (2.20.07).

Kieran Cooper led the way for the 10-year-old boys with seven races, five PBs and five top-10 finishes.

Oliver Foster, 10, performed well in the 100m individual medley, while Luke Perry and Toby Vale, both 11, set new PBs in their four events.

Perry was fourth in the 50m backstroke (38.16) and 100m backstroke (1.20.89).

Benjamin McKenna, 12, swam well in the 50m backstroke and Charlie Waites, 14, claimed silver in the same event in 30.86. He also grabbed bronze in the 50m butterfly in 30.69 alongside three more top-10 finishes.
