Rangers enjoy success over fellow high-fliers

MORETON Rangers clinched a key 3-2 win over fellow high-fliers Newent Town in Gloucestershire Northern Senior Football League Division Two.

The London Road hosts remained in second place and closed the gap to five points on leaders Barometrics but have played a game more.

Martin Tomes (2) and Richard Craig fired Rangers to victory over fourth-placed Newent ahead of Saturday's visit to Viney St Swithins.

Mid-table Winchcombe Town visit Newent on Saturday after beating basement boys Chalford 4-1.

Chipping Norton’s push for the Witney and District FA League Premier Division title was stalled as they were held to a 1-1 home draw by Hailey with Gary Smith scoring.

At the top of Division One, leaders Hailey Reserves and second-placed Bourton Rovers contested a 0-0 draw.

In rugby, Stow-on-the-Wold beat third-placed Thatcham 31-20 in Southern Counties North and Chipping Norton won 32-26 at Farnham Royal in the Berks/Bucks and Oxon Premier Division.
