Shipston enjoy fine away rugby success

First published in Sport

SHIPSTON-on-Stour Rugby Club continued their improvement with a stunning 31-19 win at high-flying Old Wheatleyans in Midlands Three West (South).

The second-from-bottom Mayo Road side are now just three points off struggling Kings Norton above them and 16 in front of Evesham ahead of Saturday's visit of Upton-upon-Severn.

Stow-on-the-Wold resume their Southern Counties North campaign on Saturday at home to second-placed Thatcham.

Their colts were unlucky to lose a top-of-the-table Berks/Bucks and Oxon League encounter 20-12 at Basingstoke.

In football, Richard Craig scored twice as second-placed Moreton Rangers slipped up with a 2-2 draw at basement boys Chalford in Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division Two.

Ed Major and Andrew Billot netted in Winchcombe Town's 3-2 loss at Wotton Rovers.

On Saturday, Moreton host fourth-placed Newent Town and Winchcombe entertain Chalford (both 3pm).
