County switch focus to reaching another quarter-final

WORCESTERSHIRE will strive to bounce back from their NatWest T20 Blast exit with director of cricket Steve Rhodes insisting: “We are desperate to do as well as we can in all competitions.”

The County were edged out by three wickets at Surrey in the quarter-finals on Saturday with Jason Roy’s half-century the major difference between the teams.

Now Rhodes is looking for Worcestershire to reach another quarter-final via the Royal London One-Day Cup.

They resume their group programme at Yorkshire Vikings on Thursday (10.30am) and have a home encounter with Lancashire Lightning on Saturday (10.30am).

Rhodes said: “We don’t really go out there and target one competition. We’ve gone hard in the T20 and only just missed out in the quarter-final.

“But, now that one has gone, we will be trying really hard to qualify in the 50-over competition.

“The lads are hurting (after Saturday) but sport is about winning or losing. Roy’s innings was the difference.”
