Hosts in shock as visitors are victorious

THE second round of pool matches for the Prudden Road Surfacing Junior Tennis Cup competition saw Henley-in-Arden, jointly with Tanworth-in-Arden, Studley, Shipston and Evesham emerge as pool leaders.

Things were turned upside down in Pool D where hosts Bidford, who won all their matches in March, lost every one this time around.

Evesham dominated the results as Tim Vaux and Rob Noble first got the better of Bidford 7-5.

They then found Pershore an easier proposition after a 6-1 success before defeating Stratford B 6-2.

A much improved Pershore took two of the matches as Linton Gardiner and Oliver Barrett defeated Bidford 6-3 and Stratford B 6-4.

The Swans Nest Lane pairing then took the honours in the last match as Ron Horne and Isaac Mackenzie beat Bidford's Patrick Naylor and Ben Green 6-4 leaving the home side with the wooden spoon despite winning 12 games on the night.

Pool B once again saw the host team, Studley's Tom Allum and Jake Woolley, prove too strong for the others, defeating first HDA of Redditch 6-1, followed by Alcester 6-3, and lastly Inkberrow 6-3.

Inkberrow's Billy Coughlin and George Crotty again managed two wins by beating Alcester 6-2 and HDA 6-1.

In the remaining match, HDA at last gained a victory when Hugo Berry and Matthew Parsons defeated Alcester's Olli Alleman and Henry Moberley after a tense tussle.

Shipston continued to dominate Pool C and Hugh Allen and James Hudson are being tipped to reach this season's final.

Despite acting as hosts they again took maximum points and dropped only one game.

That was against near neighbours Ilmington who they beat 6-1 before whitewashing both Chipping Campden and Stratford A.

The latter's pair, Oscar Lawrence and Hamish Watson, consoled themselves by in turn defeating both Ilmington and Campden by the same 6-1 score.

In the final Pool match, Campden's Josh Mosley and Jeremy Crowther gained their solitary win over Imington's Nick Sharratt and Ned Plackett 6-1.

Henley's Adam Williams and Jake Evans managed to keep their team at the top of the Pool A table but they were hard pressed by 2007 pool winners Tanworth.

Henley began by defeating hosts Snitterfield 6-3 and then overcame neighbours Claverdon 6-3. However, when they met Tanworth's Rory Turnbull and Will Elliot they were stopped in their tracks as the Tanworth pair enjoyed a narrow 6-4 victory.

Tanworth then went on to beat Claverdon 6-3 before they too were surprised and only just beat hosts Snitterfield for whom Oliver Albrecht &and Jonnie Smith almost caused a shock before losing out on a tie-break to Tanworth.

In their other match Snitterfield defeated Claverdon's Jasper Chamberlain and Rory Harris 6-1.
